ITS TIME FOR A CHANGE

“It’s time for a Professor, not a Politician on the College Board.  I’m a committed educator, husband, father, and community leader and I am running for College Board to serve our community.  SMC has a profound impact on Santa Monica and Malibu.  I will prioritize our community by ensuring that our local community college best serves the needs of our local students and residents.”

It’s time for a Professor, not a Politician

As a committed educator, community advocate, husband, and father, I will serve both the students, faculty, and staff at SMC and the residents of Santa Monica & Malibu. Raised in Southern California, I am the proud son of a Long Beach public school teacher and the proud product of California public schools, all the way from elementary school to my graduate training at UCLA in US History & Ethnic Studies.  As a history professor for over twenty years, the last fifteen at Long Beach City College, student equity, social justice, and closing the achievement gap are integral to my mission as an educator.  As a current front-line professor teaching remotely during the pandemic, I will bring my experience in higher education to guide SMC through these ever-changing times.

I am a proud father of two children in the Santa Monica public school system and a community leader in the Pico neighborhood.   I will bring fresh eyes to the ways that SMC impacts our community.  I will insist on fiscal transparency.  I will help forge a genuine Good Neighbor Policy between SMC and its neighboring communities.  Most importantly, I will prioritize that SMC serve our local students and residents.

This election, Prof. O is the Way to Go!
